ABSTRACT

The SME’s in Indonesia now is facing up the energy crisis due to the lack of fuel availability and increasing of fuel cost. On the other hand, recently many skilled people have been unemployed. The Department of Engineering Physics of Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, is focusing on development of new and renewable energy, such as solar, wind, hydro, nuclear energy etc. The problem is how to optimize department’s potential in solving SME’s energy problems. Developing technopreneurship in the field of renewable energy systems is one of the answers.

To develop technopreneurship in the department, synergy of four courses (renewable energy engineering, energy policy, research methodology and industrial management) has been conducted. Student-centered learning (SCL) and research based learning (RBL) were applied by student’s assignment and internship. Several working groups consists of students of four courses were sent to several SME’s to know real energy and technology problems. Their task is to build a company that develops a product related to renewable energy system as a solution for SME’s problem.

The synergy results several student’s conceptual renewable energy based products for SME’s. It is also increasing their comprehensive and depth understanding to course matter shown by the increasing of class-score average. Their soft skills, such as creativity, self confidence, leadership, discipline, working together, are increasing too, simultaneously.
