ABSTRACT

The primary objective and purpose of engineering continuing education is to provide workers, engineers and professionals with the opportunity to refresh and enhance their knowledge and skills. This is required in today’s society because the growth of knowledge today is increasing faster than ever. Engineering continuing education is not only the expansion of academic education in schools, but also the process of creating and discovering new knowledge. Engineering continuing education in China has been seen significant progresses since its economic innovation decades ago. In this paper, authors present some new thoughts on engineering continuing education in China. Authors studied the relationship between the education in school and the knowledge needs for industrial and social development in China. Based on their results, engineering continuing education is a very important stage in career development. Engineering continuing education is a key factor in supporting the long term growth of China’s economy. From the firsthand experiences, authors describe their teaching activities at Railway Locomotive Driver Training & Examination Centre and illustrate how the engineering continuing education contributes to the development of China’s high speed railway transportation system.
