ABSTRACT

Continuing education and, more specifically, Professional Schools become more and more important for achieving a match between the supply and the demand function of labour in industrialised countries. This paper sheds light on the role of Professional Schools in Germany. The paper focuses on the engineering sector as this has been considered to be of major importance for Germany’s competitiveness and GDP. The paper provides an in-depth analysis with regard to the potential that Professional Schools might bear for Germany, also taking into account recent institutional and societal developments.
