ABSTRACT

Searching over a structured P2P network mainly uses literal matching of words in documents with those present in user queries. But this process of searching cannot deal with the semantics and semantic relationships of words. In this paper, we try to widen the search by simulating a hierarchical semantic search over structure P2P network based on ontology - Hierarchical semantic overlay network (HSON). In HSON, peers with resources of identical semantics are connected together to form a SON. We are considering a library scenario to implement this. The semantics of SONs are associated with ontology concept. These SONs are arranged in a hierarchical manner so that adjacent nodes have similar semantics. SONs with similar semantics are directly connected with each other. The structure of HSON is very useful and beneficial to query processing. In contrast to flooding, queries are purposefully forwarded to destination SONs. This reduces the search time compared to the conventional flooding method.
