Fibonacci Coding Technique for Data Compression and Asynchronous Transmission

Abhishek S. Malvankar and Abhijit Oka

ABSTRACT

Fibonacci coding is a Variable Length Coding technique which uses the Fibonacci sequence of numbers. According to Zeckendorf [1], every positive integer can be uniquely expressed n terms of sum of nonconsecutive Fibonacci numbers. This property can be used for coding and compression, since it is variable length code. Later on in 1960, David E Daykin proved that Fibonacci sequence is only sequence that satisfies this property.

Keywords: Fibonacci coding, Asynchronous transmission, Variable length code.
