Cognitive Radio Network Architecture: An Intelligent Wireless Communication System

ABSTRACT

The wireless communication system utilizes different band of spectrum for different applications. The study observes though spectrum is scarce resource, it is unutilized or underutilized in many of the communication systems. The dynamic spectrum allocation will be solution for achieving efficient spectrum allocation. The emerging wireless technology named as cognitive radio network will be used for achieving dynamic spectrum allocation. The applications of cognitive radio network include dynamic spectrum allocation, public safety networks, and military applications. The cognitive radio works on basic idea of sharing licensed spectrum among unlicensed users without interfering licensed users of spectrum. The cognitive radio network involves learning and decision making process to make network intelligent. This paper discusses the need of cognitive radio and architecture of cognitive radio. The emerging applications of cognitive radio and conclude with design challenges of cognitive radio.
