Safety and its associated engineering approaches are nowadays mentioned in almost every human activity. To ensure a safe environment, it is important to keep pace with the development of new technologies as well as approaches. It is clear that safety is no longer just a technical issue, but its range of solutions is expanding to the social - political level. These days, we can find the concept of safety in relation to military forces, economics, ecology, sociology, politics, etc. In the last 20 years, the notion of preparedness has become known in connection with safety. The preparedness of the territorial unit for dealing with extraordinary events or crisis situations, involves a whole range of partial issues. Pursuant to the Act of Crisis Management in the Czech Republic, fire brigades of regions perform Inspection activities. The inspection authorities find at municipalities, municipalities with extended authorities, regions and law persons' obligations arising to its statutory representative and associated office. By preparing any subject, we achieve a certain level of preparedness. The article focuses on crisis preparedness and its evaluation. A review of the criteria for assessing crisis preparedness in other countries contributes to the findings. The conclusions of the research form the basis for the proposal of criteria for the evaluation of crisis preparedness in the Czech Republic.
